Identify Top Competitors With Advertiser Comparison Charts

Advertiser Comparison charts give you a simple way to get a handle on even the largest campaigns. They tell you instantly which advertisers are your true competitors and which you can ignore.

Advertiser Comparison Charts

AdGooroo plots all advertisers within a particular industry on a chart like the one below. The left axis represents coverage (frequency of all search engine impressions that a particular advertiser receives). The bottom axis represents rank; highly ranked advertisers appear to the right, while lower ranked advertisers appear to the left. The goal of any search engine advertiser is to be as close to the upper right as their budget will allow.

This map shows that the dominant advertisers in the home computer industry (at the time we took this screenshot) were Dell, HP, Staples, and Circuit City. Seven advertisers were clearly dominating the industry, despite the presence of over 1,070 other companies competing for the same ad space (most of them have been filtered from this chart for clarity.)

As you can see, a simple chart is all it takes to gain an understanding of the high-level dynamics in any category. From here, you can click directly on any of the icons in this chart to drill into the specific tactics these advertisers are using (including ad copy, landing pages, keyword selection, bid prices, and so on.)

Budget Comparison Charts

The above chart is very useful in determining the breadth and sophistication of individual advertisers because it does not take traffic into account (e.g. all keywords are weighted equally.) Thus, an advertiser who has good quality scores, sufficiently high bids, and decent keyword selection will gravitate towards the top.

Sometimes, however, you may want to simply see which companies are driving the most traffic (and how much.) Our Budget Comparison charts allow you to see this as well:

While the first chart showed a number of companies with reasonable sophisticated search programs, this chart shows that Dell is clearly dominating this category in terms of actual traffic.

SEO: Trust & Authority Charts

Similar charts are available for organic search marketing, as well. This chart shows the breadth and average position of the top advertisers on Google:

Compare Natural Advertisers

This chart reveals that top organic domains include Amazon.com, Newegg, Dell, PC World, and others. These domains are considered authoritative by the search engines and will generally do well in a wide variety of terms. No small part of your SEO efforts would be to focus on them to determine what makes them so successful.

In contrast, if you were called on to forecast organic traffic, you would be better served by the Organic Traffic Comparison chart below. This chart plots each advertisers estimated impressions and clicks:
