Four New SEM Insight Features

Posted by Richard Stokes on May 21, 2010 to Features, SEM Insight

We are excited to announce four new features available to all new SEM Insight subscribers!

New Ad Formats

We've recently re-architected our systems to detect new, experimental formats in use by the search engines. So over the next few weeks, you will begin to see new ad formats in your reports (some will start showing up as soon as tomorrow - May 22, 2010). Here are two examples (Click to enlarge images):

Phamaceutical Ads

Pharma Ads

Site Link Ads

Site link ads

PPC vs. Natural Messaging Report

This new report shows you how your PPC ad copy stacks up against your landing page URLs. This is particularly important as studies have shown aligning your paid and organic messaging can increase conversions by as much as 40%.

To access this new report, click on PPC vs. Natural Report -> Natural URL vs. PPC Ad Copy (tab):

Three Tier Client Sub-Accounts

Larger agencies now have the ability to create a hierarchy containing three tiers of accounts:

  • Master Account
  • Group Account
  • Individual Client Account

A Master Account allows you create a single account which has access to all AdGooroo accounts across your agency. For instance, a Master Account administrator could create group accounts for regional departments scattered throughout the world.

These Group Accounts in turn manage individual client accounts. A Group Account administrator can easily switch between client accounts without requiring a separate login.

Finally, Client Accounts contain reports specific to a particular client. The login credentials can safely be shared with clients because they cannot access other client accounts.

To set up and allocate licenses between these different types of sub-accounts, navigate to Manage My Account -> Manage Account -> Client Accounts (tab).

Custom Aggregations

AdGooroo subscribers can now group related domains into a single data point on their reports. This is useful if you advertise on multiple domains (such as "www.example.com" and "shop.example.com"). Statistics are aggregated on the group and keyword reports, but you can still drill into the individual advertisers as necessary.

To use this feature, simply give two or more advertisers the same label using the Display Settings dropdown:

Custom Rollups

After you refresh the page, your reports will aggregate those advertisers on both the charts as well as the report tables:

If you need to drill into an individual advertiser, just click their icon and a popup will ask you which one you'd to see more detail on:

Google Switzerland data now available!

Posted by Richard Stokes on November 23, 2009 to Features

Google Switzerland is now available in the AdGooroo keyword tracking tool. If you have trouble finding it in our setup wizard screens, note that Switzerland is abbreviated "CH".

Fun fact of the day

"So why is Switzerland abbreviated as CH, anyhow? Because its official Latin name is Confoederatio Helvetica. Thanks, Wikipedia!"

Yahoo! and Bing landing page URLs now available

Posted by Richard Stokes on November 18, 2009 to Features

AdGooroo SEM Insight and Trademark Insight reports now include Yahoo! and Bing destination URLs, also known as the landing page URLs.

Previously, the AdGooroo interface would show the Yahoo! or Bing ad without the destination URL:

Sample Yahoo! ad - prior to Nov 2009

These ads now appear with at least one URL (including tracking codes!)

Sample Yahoo! ad including destination URL

We hope that you find this enhancement to be useful! As a reminder, AdGooroo subscribers may send any additional feature requests to us at customerservice@adgooroo.com (or simply give your account rep a call. They're always happy to hear from you!)

Google Ireland is now available for monitoring within AdGooroo SEM Insight and Express.

Please note that if you require Yahoo! data for Ireland, you should choose the Yahoo! UK option within the "Manage Keywords" interface (Yahoo! does not provide separate search results for the two countries, despite having a Yahoo! Ireland website.)

New ad server resolution algorithm

Posted by Richard Stokes on September 2, 2008 to

Effective today, AdGooroo will begin resolving ads by the display URL (located within the body of the ad) rather than the destination URL (the location where the ad leads).

This change is desirable because it will allow us to more accurately resolve those ads which are served through ad servers. An example of an ad server is dartsearch.net, which serves ads from many different advertisers through the same redirect URL.

Previously, AdGooroo maintained a lengthy list of known ad servers and automatically inferred the advertiser from the print URL for them. However, ad servers are constantly changing and this made it very difficult for us to properly identify new ones. In other words, if you were monitoring a competitor and their ads began to be served from a new ad server, they would no longer show up on your reports.

In contrast, the print URL is much more reliable as an indicator of the source of an ad.

What this means to you: You should not need to make any changes to your account(s). A very small percentage of ads are served through ad servers and the vast majority of these will resolve to the same URL as they did before. In those instances where there are differences, you may actually see an increase in competitors' coverage as we are now more accurately resolving ads to their source advertisers.

Have questions? We're happy to answer them. Just contact your AdGooroo account representative or email us.

AdGooroo Adds "Top Ad Copy Report" to SEM Insight

Posted by Richard Stokes on August 19, 2008 to

August 19, 2008 - AdGooroo (www.adgooroo.com), a leading provider of online marketing competitive intelligence and keyword tools, today introduced SEM Insight's Top Ad Copy Report, a report that search advertisers can use to obtain examples of the industry's most effective search advertisements, including those of competitors. The new reporting function selects ads positioned to perform exceptionally well based on a patent-pending screening process developed by the AdGooroo research team.

The Top Ad Copy Report compares the effectiveness of online ads served in response to specific keyword searches, determining relevance based on various factors including coverage (percentage of time an ad appears for a given keyword) and position (relative high or low position on the search results page). Armed with this analysis of advertising effectiveness, advertisers can employ copywriting techniques that have proven successful in generating attention and response for specific sets of keywords.

"For the first time ever, advertisers have a reliable tool to help them discover the most powerful online ad copy," said AdGooroo Founder and Chief Gooroo Rich Stokes. "With the Top Ad Copy Report, SEM Insight users can see what's working and what's not in any given space. The report is easy to use and automatically finds the best ad copy in the keywords any particular user has chosen to track."

Stokes said the scarcity of comprehensive research on PPC ad copy effectiveness spurred AdGooroo's creation of the Top Ad Copy Report. The reporting tool was designed to achieve the dual objectives of identifying the most effective ads being displayed on Google and helping advertisers apply successful copywriting tactics.

The Top Ad Copy Report uses a database containing most of the world's online ad copy, and applies a methodology based on coverage, position and the duration of an ad's online lifecycle to find the most effective ads appearing in response to specific keyword searches.

Build 6.2.38 released

Posted by Richard Stokes on March 31, 2008 to

A new update has been pushed live to the site. This release addresses many known issues:

All Reports

  • Browser based autocomplete displaying over AdGooroo’s autocomplete feature on the advertiser filter textboxes. Affects Firefox users with autocomplete turned on in web browser’s options.
  • Help icon moved to the far right of the toolbar.
  • Display Options Filter won’t save changes to existing customization icons, or add new ones.
  • Display options popup not appearing when express users click on toolbar.
  • Display Options Filter autocomplete stops working after one icon has been added.
  • Left margin missing from page (left of menus).
  • Margin and padding set to zero, making text on many pages hard to read.
  • "Display X items per page" dropdown is too narrow, and cutting off number when 100 or more results are selected. (Firefox only)
  • Print View - animated "working" graphic shows up in print view (Firefox only)
  • Chart options (X/Y) drop downs throwing fatal error for non-AdWords groups.
  • “New Features” navigation bar section should be hidden.

Campaign Alerts
New express users with UserIDs greater than 10,000 not getting any campaign alerts.

Campaign Data Integration
Some AdWords data missing for certain keywords. Affects only SEM Insight Users with multiple AdWords integrated groups, where the same keyword is included in more than one group.

Natural Advertiser Comparison Report
Incomplete data shown for the second advertiser selected for comparison. All the keywords displayed for the first advertiser, but only some keywords shown for second advertiser.

Natural Advertiser Detail
New SERP link icons added for ASK and AOL.

Natural Executive Overview
This report was incorrectly set to show all keywords found (instead of just the keywords in the current group). This was misleading because there was no check box to turn this feature on/off.

Natural Missing Keywords Report

  • Check box toggle was overlapping the top of the datagrid.
  • Report was generating a fatal error for groups with AOL or ASK.

Inbound Linking Report

  • "Dont show internal links" checkbox incorrectly positioned at the upper-left of the page on top of the header.
  • When a new report is in progress, the "last report date" gets changed to "never". The “never” text has been removed because it is confusing. The “never” text still displays when a report has actually never been generated.

PPC Missing Keywords Report
Report was generating a fatal error for groups with AOL or ASK.

PPC Executive Overview
Fatal error when you click on the “click here for detailed group report” link

PPC Group Report

  • Select an integrated group, select custom chart options, switch to a non-integrated group -> fatal error.
  • Navigate to "natural keyword detail" report and select any keyword. Then select "PPC Group
  • Report" from left nav bar. The Group report loads up and filters by the selected keyword.
  • Keywords are not supposed to be an allowable filter on this report.
  • Ad Copy Tab – Impossible to run a 30 day report without the database timing out.

Keyword Research (by URL) Report
Export to excel showing wrong advertiser name in the header when you export multiple successive reports.

Upgrade Account
Bulleted list being rendered too far to the left.

A new look for AdGooroo!

Posted by Richard Stokes on March 10, 2008 to

As you may have noticed, AdGooroo is sporting a new look today!

As we continue to grow (AdGooroo has recently crossed the 1,000th client mark), browser compatibility and page load time have become important issues. To address these needs, we've embraced CSS/XHTML as our design standard. Our new website should provide a more consistent user experience to both our Internet Explorer and Firefox users, faster page load times, and much better readability.

Did we mention that it looks a lot better, too?

Of course, while we've spent countless hours proofing pages, there will undoubtedly be a few bugs which might have crept past us. Please let us know of any problems you may find on the site by emailing us at techsupport@adgooroo.com.
